Postgraduate Diploma in Humanitarian Forensics is NFSU’s uniquely designed flagship programme under the International Centre for Humanitarian Forensics. The programme is designed to contribute to meeting the demand for a competent workforce dedicated to sustainable, resilient and effective disaster response and emergency preparedness. The course gives covers the legal context in which humanitarian forensics takes place – International Humanitarian Law – and how it converges with International Criminal Law and International Human Rights Law. Graduates will receive sound instruction and training on the scientific multidisciplinary methods used in human identification. Participants will receive comprehensive instruction on mass fatality management and disaster victim identification. This is framed by critical considerations of culture and how methods can be adapted to mitigate human suffering according to different belief systems among communities impacted by violence around the world. Regular classes are supplemented by hands-on experience, field visits and global case studies. Guest lectures by international experts are a routine part of the course.
